Taiwan Tech and Paraguay have maintained a long-standing close collaboration. To assist Paraguay in cultivating vocational talents, Taiwan Tech specially invited Professor Zhi-Hui Li from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Hwa Hsia University of Technology to conduct a four-day “Automation Practical Workshop” at the Hwa Hsia Campus of Taiwan Tech in June. The workshop aims to enhance automation skills among Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University students, combining theory and practice. Topics include the overall operation of electromechanical integration equipment, training in pneumatic and circuit wiring, and understanding and application of programmable control programs, allowing students to deepen their learning through hands-on practice.

In the workshop, Professor Zhi-Hui Li explains the operation of automation equipment using clear diagrams and examples. He emphasizes that in industrial settings, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) often integrate electric motors, pneumatic components, and various sensors, and explain each in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. He provides accessible insights into the operating principles and applications of different pneumatic components. Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University students practically connect various types of pneumatic components, adjusting pneumatic cylinder movements, speed control loops, and delay circuits. These hands-on exercises not only enhance students' practical skills but also deepen their understanding of pneumatic circuit operation principles.
Professor Zhi-Hui Li notes that Paraguayan students have shown a strong desire to learn about automation during the short workshop. In addition to enthusiastic participation with almost zero absence, their active participation in class discussions and questions, as well as their inquiries about supplementary materials and advanced courses after class, demonstrate their expectations and thirst for professional knowledge transcending language barriers. Professor Li believes that if these students maintain such enthusiasm and attitude throughout their nearly two-year learning journey in Taiwan, they will reap substantial rewards.

Moisés Melgarejo, a third-year student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of Taiwan, stated that the “Automation Practical Workshop” covers basic pneumatics, electromechanical integration using PLCs, and other topics, providing us valuable hands-on experience and apply these technologies to promote industrial development in Paraguay.
Student Sofía Agüero added, “The workshop's practical sessions sparked my interest in automation technology and helped me understand Paraguay's current industrial needs. These learning experiences are guiding me towards becoming an excellent engineer”. Cristhian Sotomayor commented, “Professor Li Zhihui has extensive experience and patiently guides students, expanding both the depth and breadth of our knowledge. His teachings are highly beneficial for Paraguay's industrial development.”
As global competition intensifies, the importance of technical and vocational education becomes increasingly evident. Taiwan Tech not only prioritizes nurturing Taiwanese students but also actively promotes international cooperation, providing technical support and educational resources to friendly nations. This underscores Taiwan's leadership in vocational education. Moving forward, Taiwan Tech will continue to innovate, emphasizing a balanced approach of theory and practice to advance global vocational education and cultivate more internationally competitive technical and vocational talents.
