An art feast gathering the world's top creative designs, D&AD International Tour Exhibition Taiwan Station, grandly opens at Taiwan Tech on 12/6.

The Design and Art Direction (D&AD) International Tour Exhibition Taiwan Station, organized by the General Education Center and the Department of Design at Taiwan Tech, is about to enter its third year. Associate Professor Gen-Zai Li from the Department of Design and the design team will be in charge of organizing the event for the third time. The exhibition is scheduled to take place from December 6th to December 22nd at the Grand Workshop of Taiwan Tech. Gen-Zai Li hopes that organizing this exhibition will strengthen the connection between Taiwan and the international design community, and provide more opportunities for professionals and students in the design field to understand international creative trends and developments, bringing new inspiration to the design industry in Taiwan.

D&AD is one of the most prestigious global awards in the creative advertising and design industry. Every year, it attracts design teams, illustrators, and advertisers from around the world. The awards include the Wood Pencil, Graphite Pencil, Yellow Pencil, Black Pencil, White Pencil, and the New Blood Awards specifically designed for students. These awards encourage the new generation of designers to challenge their potential, promote diversity in the design field, and create new trends.

In 2023, approximately 11,000 entries from 56 countries were submitted, with only about 5% receiving nominations. Outstanding local teams such as Taiwan Ogilvy, Bito, and the Department of Design at Taiwan Tech have been recognized and awarded. Each year, winning entries are not only featured in the D&AD Annual but also showcased in touring exhibitions across cities like Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai, Melbourne, and Taipei. This opportunity enables the winners to gain more exposure beyond borders, while global design professionals can draw creative inspiration and energy from these exhibitions.

As part of this D&AD touring exhibition series, a special invitation has been extended to Chih Chiu, a young artist who graduated from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. Chih Chiu will conduct workshops to share insights and experiences gained over the years in the realms of interactive installation art and creative design. Through these teaching workshops, the aim is to guide industry professionals to conceptualize designs from different perspectives, break creative and production barriers, and cultivate a more diverse range of design viewpoints.

Director Si-Ying Li from the General Education Center at Taiwan Tech emphasizes that collaborating with the Department of Design to host the D&AD touring exhibition presents a significant opportunity to expand the scale of cultural events within the general education center. They hope to enrich Taiwan Tech students' artistic experiences by introducing international elements while promoting the core principles of the university, such as enhancing humanities, cultural innovation, embracing diverse knowledge, and fostering collaborative creation.

This year's D&AD touring exhibition aims to stimulate different perspectives within the domestic design industry by incorporating exhibitions from international design benchmark organizations. They sincerely invite professionals, students, and design enthusiasts of all kinds to participate and explore the boundless possibilities of design together.
