The team from Taiwan Tech has released a new book, "AI Arts Styles of the Future: A Non-technical Introduction to AI drawing," redefining the beauty of art.

Professor Gwo-Jen Hwang, Chair Professor of the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education at Taiwan Tech, led a team to publish a new book titled “AI Arts Styles of the Future: A Non-Technical Introduction to AI Drawing” in September, marking a new milestone in the application of generative artificial intelligence. Professor Gwo-Jen Hwang, the author, pointed out, “Many books on the market focus on instructing AI drawing, resembling instructional guides. The objective of this book, however, is to guide readers to appreciate the beauty of AI art”.

In recent years, the widespread adoption of the AI drawing system, Midjourney, has sparked a global trend. Many educators and educational institutions have incorporated AI drawing generative technology into their curricula, combining creativity with emerging technologies to showcase the value and allure of artistic creation. In addition to penning a commendatory foreword for the book, President Bor-Chen Kuo of National Taichung University of Education attended the book launch event to express his support. He stated, “Arts Styles of the Future: A Non-Technical Introduction to AI Drawing” embodies the ultimate fusion of artificial intelligence and artistic creation. Particularly, it addresses the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), showcasing a genuine concern for the Earth. This exceptional feature renders the book highly educational and valuable for reference.

In addition to Professor Gwo-Jen Hwang, several co-authors of this book are alumni of Taiwan Tech who have attained master's and doctoral degrees. Dr. Yun-Fang Tu, one of the authors, mentioned that in recent years, she has received numerous invitations from universities to give lectures on AI drawing, indicating the increasing trend of AI generative technology. She pointed out that this book takes an innovative perspective on AI's depiction of food, progressively guiding and immersing readers into the world of AI. It showcases breakthrough practices in animal depiction, portrait art, and even in the realms of fashion and interior design. Readers also have the opportunity to appreciate a mix of diverse styles, such as mechanical, hyper realistic environmental depiction, and abstract expressionism.

Ling Jin, a professional lecturer at AICG and the sole Chinese MOD certified by Midjourney, stated that this book stands out significantly from others in the market, challenging the limits of printing technology in terms of content, layout, and output quality. Whether one is an art enthusiast or a tech enthusiast, resonance and inspiration in art creation can be found within its pages.

Professor Gwo-Jen Huang and authors Yun-Fang Tu, Ling Jin, Mei-Ling Yang, Li Bai, and Min-Che Qiu devoted their efforts to combining the most popular generative artificial intelligence in the world with artistic creation and sustainable development goals. They subverted traditional frameworks, found resonances, and brought forth new creative thinking, vividly showcasing the boundless potential of AI and art.

Professor Gwo-Jen Huang's academic expertise includes the application of artificial intelligence in education, gamified learning, and flipped learning. He was the recipient of The Excellent Teacher Award from the Ministry of Education in 2019 and has published over 700 papers and works related to digital learning and intelligent systems. Furthermore, he was recently ranked in the top position in the national education sector in the “2022 Science Influence Rankings” released by Stanford University. He expressed that in the future, generative AI courses will be expanded and promoted to high schools and vocational schools to enhance students' skills and concepts in using AI.
