The “Good Friends, Take Your Time - Tribal Weaving Craft Exhibition from Guanshan and Chishang” was co-organized by the Taiwan Tech USR’s I-Villages: Mobility for Change and Taoyuan City Library. It is currently on display in the Children's Art Exhibition Area on the third floor of Taoyuan City Library.

The exhibition is held from October 2 to October 30. In addition to physical objects and informational graphics, Associate Professor Neng-Hao Yu from the Department of Design at Taiwan Tech has created a VR learning environment and engaging interactive content focused on the cultural background of the showcased textiles, providing visitors with an immersive experience.

Parents and children at the exhibition used interactive learning boxes to explore the meanings of national cultural patterns.

The exhibition is curated by Professor Yun-Shang Chiou from the Department of Architecture at Taiwan Tech, with assistance from the Knowledge Services Team at Taoyuan City Library and the Mudaukdauk weaving materials shop in Guanshan (Bunun language for “Take Your Time”). They connected local weaving artisans from Guanshan and Chishang, providing relevant books and planning exhibitions to address contemporary issues in the preservation and innovation of indigenous weaving culture.

The showcased works primarily come from the Labe Workshop (Amis), Teacher Xiu-Ying Zhang (Amis), the Bofazi Workshop (Bunun), and the Gaia-na Workshop (Bunun), along with cultural relics on loan from Dungguang Elementary School. The exhibition features a comprehensive collection of clothing, accessories, weaving tools, explanatory weaving samples, and materials from both the Bunun and Amis tribes.

During the exhibition period, the “Good Friends, Take Your Time” weaving craft exhibition at Taoyuan City Library features a series of events, including the opening celebration on October 5, two “Parent-Child Craft” workshops on October 6 and 20 (one focusing on Amis culture and the other on Bunun culture), and a sharing session on October 24 hosted by Taiwan Tech USR titled “Interdisciplinary Connections”. This session will feature Dr. Hui-Hui Li, the head of the Education and Culture Division of the Taoyuan Indigenous Peoples Administration, who will speak on “Crossing Food Spaces: Eating Tradition”, discussing how various ethnic groups preserve their cultural heritage through food. The public is warmly invited to visit the exhibition and participate in these activities.

During the opening celebration, Teacher Xiu-Ying Zhang shared insights about cultural activities in the Dungguang Tribe.

Taoyuan City serves as the primary destination for youth from the Hualien-Taitung Valley seeking opportunities in northern metropolitan areas, with many residents of the Taitung Guanshan community having family and friends settled in Taoyuan. The organizers hope this exhibition will encourage cross-regional cultural continuity and exchange, providing comfort to those away from home while enriching the diverse cultural landscape of Taoyuan City.
