70 Professors from Taiwan Tech were selected as Top 2% Scientists Globally, achieving a new record

Taiwan Tech proudly announces that 70 of its esteemed professors have been selected for the 2023 "World's Top 2% Scientists" list released by Stanford University on October 4th, 2023. Among them, 55 professors have been recognized in the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings (1960-2022)", while 45 professors were included in the "Annual Scientific Impact Rankings for 2022". Deducting the 30 professors who appeared on both lists, a total of 70 professors were selected, setting a new record and establishing our institution as a leader in vocational and technical education in Taiwan.

In terms of subfield rankings, professors from Taiwan Tech achieved the top position nationwide in the fields of Chemical Engineering, Construction, and AI Imaging in both the "Annual Scientific Impact Rankings for 2022" and the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings (1960-2022)". This recognition underscores the significant acknowledgment of research achievements at our university, showcasing critical international academic influence.

Professor Tai-Shung Chung, the Yushan Scholar in the Department of Chemical Engineering, secured the top position nationwide in the field of Chemical Engineering and held the 6th position globally in the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings". Professor Jui-Sheng Chou, Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering, ranked first nationwide in the field of Construction and 51st globally. In AI Imaging, Professor Shyi-Ming Chen, Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, claimed the top spot in both national and global rankings, securing the 79th position worldwide. Additionally, Professor Gwo-Jeng Hwang, Chair Professor at Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education, ranked first in the national education sector for 2022 and 14th globally.

In terms of the number of professors in each discipline, among those selected for the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings (1960-2022)", 23 were from the field of Engineering, and 12 were from the field of Information and Communication Technology, making them the dominant academic disciplines. Notable scholars like Professor Shun-Feng Su from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Professor Bing-Joe Huang, Distinguished Chair Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Professor Yu-Chung Tsao, recipient of the National Chair Professorship in the Department of Industrial Management, Professor Rong-Fung Huang, Distinguished Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Professor Huei-Tse Hou, Distinguished Chair Professor and winner of the Academic Master Award in the Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Technology, were all featured in the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings" highlighting the rich research capabilities and recognized achievements of professors at Taiwan Tech.

This year, a total of 70 professors from Taiwan Tech were selected, representing an increase from the previous year. In the "Annual Scientific Impact Rankings", the number of professors increased from 41 to 45. In the "Lifetime Scientific Impact Rankings (1960-2022)", the number increased from 48 to 55. The overall count of selected professors increased significantly from 58 to 70, constituting approximately 12.7% of the total faculty at the university.

This list is compiled by Stanford University using data from the largest global citation abstract database, Scopus. The data for this update is current up to the end of 2022, and calculations were made using all Scopus authors as of October 1, 2023. Each list features approximately 100,000 scientists, spanning 22 main disciplines and 174 subfields.
